Support the Greenstone Wheelchair Challenge Date:Sun, 3rd Oct 2010
Greenstone Shopping Centre will be hosting the Wheelchair Challenged on Sunday, 3 October in partnership with Edenvale Rotary, GPAPD (Gauteng Provincial Association for Persons with Disabilities), the Green Office & Green Able Trust, and the SASAPD (SA Sports Association for Physically Disabled). The day will take the form of several wheelchair races through the centre -first a celebrity wheelchair race followed by company relays to create awareness for the everyday difficulties encountered by persons in a wheelchair when visiting a shopping centre. This event aims bring awareness to the broader attitudes and prejudices/perceptions held about disability in society.
Join us on this fun-filled day and get to see the following celebrities in action : Edith Venter, Jacaranda FM’s Darren Scott, Radio 2000’s Doug Anderson, Comedian Darren Maule, SABC News Anchor Romy Titus, 94.7’s Traffic Reporter Bongani, Binnelanders’ actor Erik Holm, singer Axene and mountaineer Deshen Deysel among others. How can you get involved?
These celebrities will be lending their support to stop the invisibility of disability in society as part of a broader public awareness campaign called “Challenge the Challenged” but you too can take up the challenge in the following ways:
1.Sponsor a team as a Corporate Company for the race, consisting of 5 contestants per team at R1000 per team member, who will race against each other to raise the money needed to cover the cost of new motorised and manual wheelchairs for those identified by the GPAPD in needy communities.
2. Sponsorships/donations challenges
- Manual Chairs can be sponsored through Rotary at R200 per chair
- Motorised chairs are valued at a minimum of R10, 000 - depending on the chair
- Pledge Forms – will be available on the day for the public to donate anything from as little R10 towards the fundraiser. Every contribution counts!
3. Support for other fundraising activities on the day of the event- such as hoop shooting, face painting, balloon sculpting.
Through this campaign we hope the public will not only have fun as they watch the disabled persons pair up with non-disabled persons and 'race' through the check points in the Centre, but that they will find it an eye opening experience which at the end of the day, may find them saying something like: "I never realised or understood how hard it actually is to push a wheelchair."

Spring goes green at our Organic Market this September. Visit our Ster Kinekor Court, 24-26 September and check out the range of organic/green products on display from our tenants. Bring the kids along to take part in our exciting creative workshops and see what fun they’ll have making exciting stuff such as treasure boxes, bird feeders, rainsticks, collages and glass lanterns using everyday household waste like old magazines, cereal boxes, cardboard juice or milk cartons, etc. Aside from these from wonderful creations they’ll be invited to make personalized bookmarks, hanging mobiles and picture frames to give to charity.

Kids and parents with an interest in the wonders of science are invited to this event taking place at Ster Kinekor Court From Friday, 17th September to Sunday 19th September. Aimed at Junior Einsteins between 5 and 14 years old, the Science Fair will have lots for all inquisitive minds to share and kids will even get a chance to try doing some of the exciting experiments themselves. There will be bubbles, smoke and even an explosion or two. Don’t miss it!!

It’s Game On with our Winter Holiday Programme: Thu, 10th Jun 2010 - Sun, 11th Jul 2010
Join Greenstone’s World Cup Kick Off parade on Friday, 11th of June, at 12 noon and be part of the soccer fever. Starting on the 10th of June till the Sunday, 11 July Greenstone has an action packed line up to keep the Kids warm and entertained this school holiday. The variety of entertainment will include soccer themed activities, fun-filled creative workshops by Herbert Evans, daily book readings at Books Galore, games such as Disney Treasure Hunt, High School Musical and Ben 10 shoot out tables with fun prizes up for grabs, a Gladiator jumping castle, movie corner etc for younger kids. Teens can look forward to some serious fun with our Quarto bungy, an X-box 360 zone as well as other fun games and a Lan Party for gaming enthusiasts to challenge each other. A detailed programme is available from our Info kiosk in front of Ster Kinekor so you don’t miss out on any of the action.
- Soccer Week, 10-20 June: Bring the kids for lots of soccer action with cool activities such as dribble darby, soccer sku, aim & score as well as soccer workshops where the kids will get their face painted and get to make soccer hats and hanging soccer balls among other fun things at our Ster Kinekor & Truworths Court.
- Gaming Week, 21-27 June: Come to our Gaming lounge and enjoy an Xbox 360 Zone, a LAN party with all the latest cool stuff for the gaming enthusiasts from 25-27 June, 9am till 8pm.
- Arts & Crafts Week, 28 June -2 July at Herbert Evans: Kids from 7 to 12 years old are invited to their creative workshops which will be running (at R50 per workshop, per child) from 10-11am, 1-2pm, 3-4pm in that week. Books Galore will also be hosting daily book readings from 2:30 -3:30 during this week at no cost.

Greenstone Shopping Centre invites you to take part in the CANSA Shavathon 2010 being held on 6 March in over 200 workplaces and 137 shopping centres across the country. With the generous support of all South Africans, CANSA Shavathon 2009 set a benchmark that will be tough to beat! This year Greenstone and its tenants are pulling out all the stops to make it an even more exciting Shavathon yet by creating a fun day for the whole family to enjoy. There will be entertaining activities as well as spot prizes and other give-aways from the centre to be won by participants on the day.
Come to the Ster Kinekor Court from 9am to 4pm on Saturday, 6th March and show your support in the fight against cancer. Colour-Spray or shave your head for a R50 donation or R25 for children under 12. You can also collect pledges from family and friends, your school, company or church and bring the monies to the centre’s Ster Kinekor Court on 6th March. These funds go towards CANSA’s wide reaching prevention programmes and patient care services in the region where the event takes place.
