Support the Greenstone Wheelchair Challenge, Sun 4 December.
Greenstone Shopping Centre will be hosting the Wheelchair Challenged on Sunday, 4 December in partnership with Edenvale Rotary, Round Table, the Green Office, Africa Expeditionary Force and the SASAPD (SA Sports Association for Physically Disabled). The day will take the form of several wheelchair races in the centre garden court - first a celebrity wheelchair race followed by company relays to create awareness for the everyday difficulties encountered by persons in a wheelchair when visiting a shopping centre. This event aims bring awareness to the broader attitudes and prejudices/perceptions held about disability in society.
Join us on this fun-filled day and get to see the following celebrities in action: Edith Venter, SABC News Anchor Romy Titus, DJ Paul Rotherham and actress Relebogile Mabotja among others. How can you get involved?
These celebrities will be lending their support to stop the invisibility of disability in society as part of a broader public awareness campaign called "Challenge the Challenged" but you too can take up the challenge in the following ways:
1.Sponsor a team as a Corporate Company for the race, consisting of 5 contestants per team, who will race against each other to raise the money needed to cover the cost of new motorised and manual wheelchairs for those identified in needy communities.
2. Sponsorships/donations challenges
- Manual Chairs can be sponsored through Rotary at R200 per chair
- Motorised chairs are valued at a minimum of R10 000 - depending on the chair
- Pledge Forms - will be available on the day for the public to donate anything from as little R10 towards the fundraiser. Every contribution counts!
Through this campaign we hope the public will not only have fun as they watch the disabled persons pair up with non-disabled persons and 'race' through the check points in the Centre, but that they will find it an eye opening experience which at the end of the day, may find them saying something like: "I never realised or understood how hard it actually is to push a wheelchair."
